To Dream a Possible Dream
Jean Li
Perhaps you have all heard of the expression " It's just a dream. It is good while it lasted." Some dreams are so sweet
that you not only want it to last but you also want it to come true. These dreams raise your PULSE and make life meaningful. When is the
last time you have this type of dream? Perhaps, some of you may say "never" and some may say "it has been a long
time". I would like to share with you my dream that I know is a possible dream.
The origin of my dream
My dream is found in the familiar Bible verse "Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been
given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28: 18-20.
Yes, it is the GREAT COMMISSION.
This is one of the final statements that our LORD and SAVIOUR gave to His disciples and the words are chosen carefully.
Close your eyes and visualize yourself standing alone in front of this risen Lord. He knew He would be leaving you shortly. This is
why he said "Go, your name
and…" Can you fill in your name?
Going?
However, my dream is not that everyone at ETCBC get
to go away!! My dream is that everyone can hear our Lord saying the second part of His farewell to the early disciples. It is
"….. make
disciples of all nations". It is my dream that everyone
of us at ETCBC who called himself/herself to be a disciple of Christ to become a disciplemaker . Perhaps, some of us will indeed be
called to go to China, South America etc. but every disciple is called to make disciples who can make disciples who can make disciples who
can…" 1
Possible?
I was told a disciple models after his/her master and it is the duty of the disciple to spread the teachings of the master. This is true
for disciples of any discipline. However, in my mind there is one problem. It is too difficult a task to carry out.
A few weeks ago, I was privileged to attend the Evangelism Explosion clinic. At the clinic, all of us had to go out to share the gospel
with strangers. On the final evening, my team went to a donut shop where we met a couple who were there on a date. After a brief
conversation, we were given the permission to share the gospel. Both of them accepted Christ with tears in their eyes. Was it
difficult? The most difficult thing was convincing myself
that it was possible.
To see someone accept God's gift of eternal is the most joyful event on earth and in heaven. It is worth all our effort.
An Invitation
It is indeed my dream see everyone at ETCBC rising up to our Lord's commission. I hope this can become your dream too. Some of us
may say you are not the type who can do this but remember that it is our Lord who gave us the authority and it is a command. Above all,
how can we refuse to obey the One who love us so much that He died for us on the cross?!
