The Gospel according to Matthew records Jesus teaching his disciples as he was about to leave their presence
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:17-20)
We believe that this is a mandate to disciple followers of Christ as a community of believers to not only KNOW the word, but also BE the word and ultimate DO the word of God. Therefore in order to carry out this ministry to not only inform but transform the people of God a combination of formal classroom style teaching and mentorship is available at various times throughout the year.
Although the responsibility to step forward in growth is upon the individual, as a community we take seriously the need to provide avenues to learn and grow. Metanoia is the Greek word that literally means “shift of mind”. But this is not just a word in Christian history which has classically translated it as “repent”, and means much more than passively receiving information, but rather “metanoia” refers to the possibility of recreating ourselves over and over again and what it may mean to truly be human (see The Fifth Discipline, P. Senge)
